The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan office in partnership with the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU) has taken the anti-Corruption campaign to secondary schools.

In line with the preventive mandate of the Commission, the Oyo State Student Unions in tertiary institutions in collaboration with the Commission recently organized a day public enlightenment programme and interactive session with some select secondary school students on the fight against corruption and all forms of economic and financial.

The programme held at the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Ibadan, drew participants from three secondary schools

In his welcome address, the Senate President of the Student Union, Oke Wasiu Ayinde told the participants that “the object of the gathering is to dispel ignorance among the youth and to educate them on the extent to which corruption had destroyed the moral values of our society.

Quoting a popular maxim, he said, “if one is not informed, one will be deformed”. The programme, according to him, was initiated to inform and educate the youths, particularly students, by sensitizing them on the need to fight this devastating and endemic scourge that has left the country prostrate and underdeveloped.

It is imperative therefore for us all to have a moral reorientation and support the efforts of the government through the EFCC to fight corruption. We cannot leave it to them alone; we must rise up to the occasion and lend our voices wherever we are”.

The Ibadan Zonal Head, Abdulrasheed Bawa who was represented by the Head of Public Affairs, Ayo Oyewole commended the efforts and the initiative of members of the Students Union to partner with the Commission. He said, your resolve to join force with us at the Commission is a step in the right direction, and an impressive one that will inculcate the right values in the students.

According to Bawa, the programme today has offered you an opportunity to be educated about the importance of integrity and the need to grow into responsible citizens that will build our country. The fight against corruption cannot be left to the EFCC alone because the choices and decisions you make today will determine the type of society you and your children will live in. Together we can make Nigeria great again.

This is why we will continue to encourage the youths to serve as role models by shunning crimes and all acts of corruption. “The future of this country belongs to you, the youths, you must say no to the alluring temptations of crime and align yourself with honesty”.

We will continue to partner and collaborate with you students by establishing Integrity Clubs in your school to further promote the objective of value reorientation among the students in all the schools, he enthused.
