Phones these days have gone beyond their primary usage of receiving and making calls.

With the inception of smartphones into the global system for mobile communication, phones have now become a whole lot for users who have all vital information stored on their phones and also use them to access different kinds of information.

So losing or misplacing one’s phone can be traumatic, disturbing and destabilizing. Such was the case of Oye Agunbiade and Bola Afilaka when they suddenly discovered that their phones had been stolen.

In spite of discouraging comments from friends and families that it was needless, time consuming and unnecessary, the decision was theirs. So both of them approached the Anti- Kidnapping Unit of the Nigeria Police in Akure to unravel the mystery behind who might be in possession of their phones.

After collecting some details about the phones, most importantly the International Mobile Equipment Identity Number, IMEI often unscripted on phones’ packs, the police swung into action to track the phones.

With patience, while also parting with some administrative charges, Oye and Bola had the last laugh as the tracking process eventually uncovered those in possession of the phones.

The culprits were subsequently arrested, made to pay for whatever expenses incurred by the complainants and if the complainants had insisted, they could have been charged with stealing.

Sometimes those in possession of other peoples phones illegally claimed they innocently picked them up and not knowing what to do, they ended up using them or that they just bought them as second – hand item, for these flimsy excuses, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Command, Mr Femi Joseph gave a word of caution .

For those who may be interested in employing the tracking means of the police to recover their lost phones, the advice is this, do not waste time, approach the unit as soon as it happens and you must present the International Mobile Equipment Number, the IMEI number, remember, the IMEI number on every phone is unique to it and it is the most essential in the tracking process.

Many Nigerians have also hoped that this tracking.
