Former president of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Malam Ali Chiroma was prevented from joining the protest led by the current president of the NLC in Kaduna by armed security men.
Chiroma who is 84 and was president of the NLC in 1984 had left his house in Degel Road in Ugwan Rimi, Kaduna to join the NLC leaders for the protest but had to turn back at the Lafia Road Junction on Independence way.
The road was blocked by armed security men who did not allow him pass. “I got there but the police had blocked the entrances so I could not find my way to join them and before I could locate them I got one of them on the line who told me that they had already dispersed,” he said.
Chiroma however expressed his support to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for protesting against the sack of workers on Kaduna State.
NLC officials led by their president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, came to Kaduna and protested the sack of over 36,000 workers by the state government. Chiroma is 84 years old and was NLC president between 1984 and 1988.
