PDP chair: Step down for George, youths beg Adeniran, others
A group within the Peoples Democratic Party, the Yoruba Youth Vanguard, has appealed to Prof. Tunde Adeniran and other Yoruba contesting the party’s national chairmanship to step down for the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George.
This, the group said, would boost Yoruba’s chance of getting the chairmanship position. In a statement issued on Thursday by its Chairman, Segun Adigun, the group said the appeal became necessary following the alleged withdrawal from the race by Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, leaving only Mr. Uche Secondus as the only aspirant from the South-South.
It said with this development, the battle for the chairmanship of the PDP would be a straight fight between Secondus and George, saying that other aspirants from the South-West should not spoil George’s chance.
The group stated, “We hereby appeal passionately to Prof. Adeniran and other Yoruba aspirants to rally round Chief Bode George in this very crucial and very decisive moment that will determine not only the future of the PDP but equally the future of the Nigerian union and the relevance of the Yoruba people.
