Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has defended his post-match celebrations following his team’s stunning victory over hosts Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.

United scored twice in the final ten minutes to snatch a 2-1 win in Turin on Wednesday night.

Speaking during the post-match conference, Mourinho insisted his ear-cupping gesture after the game was not offensive. He said he just wanted to see how the Italian fans would react.

Although United lost the reverse fixture in Manchester 1-0 a couple of weeks ago, a Juan Marta free kick and a Paul Pogba deflected goal have now boosted their chances of qualifying from Group H.

Mourinho, who had won a quadruple of titles with Inter Milan in 2010, caused offence to many Juve players and fans when he celebrated the 2-1 result by cupping his hand to his ears as he walked onto the pitch, with a grin on his face as he turned and nodded at supporters.

He was confronted by Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci before he was escorted down the tunnel.
