The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Ganiyu Sopeyin on Monday urged stakeholders in basic education to complement the State government’s efforts by investing more in public primary schools.
Dr. Sopeyin made the call while addressing members of the Oando Foundation on a courtesy visit to the Board, noting that the Lagos State government has done a lot in improving the standard of education.
He observed that because of the influx of people to the State, government efforts need to be complemented by stakeholders in the society who are willing to invest in education.
According to him “stakeholders can complement government efforts in the area of infrastructure and computer facilities which are inadequate due to the influx of people and an increase in the population of the State”.
He commended the efforts of the Foundation for adopting eight primary schools in the State, adding that government is open to any partnership on concerted efforts aimed at improving the standard of education in Lagos.
The Chairman assured the Foundation that the Board would do everything possible to maintain the facilities the foundation had donated to the eight schools adopted.
Speaking earlier, the President, Sumotoni Chemicals and a member of the Foundation, Mr. Scott Mitchell stated that their visit was aimed at exploring ways of supporting more schools.
He pledged the continuous support of the Foundation to the State, especially in the area of education.
