Press Statement – Kano’s Independent 10 Megawatts Project Reaches 90% Completion Stage

In an effort to bring back the past industrial might and glory of the state, the Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has wasted no time in completing the Tiga Hydropower Station, that will provide 10 Megawatts of electricity.

The project was started by the past administration in the state, but to fulfil the promises he made immediately after his inauguration during his first tenure in office in 2015, the project now reaches 90 percent completion.

This was disclosed by the Co-Consultant of the project, Engineer Balarabe Shehu, Chairman MBS Engineering, when the governor inspected the facility in Tiga town, Friday, adding that, “We are glad to understand that, this administration is executing the project with all seriousness and genuine commitment.”

He said the “Control Room and Power Houses, among others are completed 100 percent. Hopefully it won’t take us more than 2 or 3 months to commission the project.”

What would even make the project to reach up to two or three months before completion, according to the Engineer, “…is there are certain things, particularly the use of the Tiga Dam, that the state needs to get permission and clearance from the federal government.”

In his remarks, Ganduje assured that, “We are about to get that permission from federal government. We are in touch with the federal Ministry of Water Resources. So very soon this project will see the light of the day.”

When completed, he said, it would take care of the industrial sector of the state, adding that, “Our state will bounce back to its industrial might. This 10 Megawatts, as we mentioned will take care of our industries and street lights in the metropolis.”

He further reveals that, similar project is on, at Challawa Dam, adding that, “Our priority is to make sure that problem of electricity supply is washed aside. When investment will also thrive in the state. We are simply creating more enabling environment for businesses to bounce back.”

With the completion of the project, many industries would bounce back to capacity. Encouraging that, “Other small businesses will also thrive. And that will go a long way in addressing unemployment problem among our people.”
