A nongovernmental organisation named Kano state civil society situation room has filed a petition against Kano state government over alleged attempt to buy votes ahead of the 23rd March,2019 re-run election.
The co-convener of the petition comrade Abdulrazaq Alkali stated this while addressing journalists shortly after submitting the petition to the zonal office of the economic and final crimes commission EFCC in Kano.
He maintained that the group was aware of the EFCC’s efforts in curbing the menace of vote buying in the Democratic process.
Abdulrazaq Alkali explained that the petition was filed in to draw the attention of the anti graft agency on a suspicious withdrawal of over two hundred and twenty million naira from Kano state government Treasury, through the ministry for local government.
The petition alleged that the amount has been allocated to different local governments were INEC schedules to hold re-run election.
The Civic society appealed to EFCC to investigate the root of the matter aimed at ensuring peaceful conduct of the re-run election.
When contacted the commissioner for local government Alhaji Murtala Garo said the petition was baseless and a mere allegation.
Alhaji Murtala explained that the money was released to thirteen local governments out of which five were not among the local government that the re-run will take place.
The commissioner added that the funds released on the 12th March were meant for executing government projects.
