Experts proffer solutions to security breaches in Schools

Security experts at a national conference in Abuja have called for strict compliance to security guidelines in the operation of both public and private schools in the country.

This was the high point at the commencement of the conference on safe school consultative conference for education leaders.

The Chairman of The Safe School Academy International, a non governmental organisation retired Maj. Gen. Mathias Eforuma called on stakeholders in the educational sector to adhere to safety and security standards in schools.

Retired Maj. Gen. Mathias Eforuma expressed dissatisfaction as safety and security standards have not been given adequate attention to when approving the establishment of schools.

One of the speakers during the programme, Deputy Controller, Federal Fire Service, Richard White said there were penalties for defaulters who manage schools without meeting the approved standards of safety by the Federal Fire Service.

Another keynote speaker, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Ibrahim Zungura attributed school security breach as one major reason for kidnappings in school.

The 2019 National School Academy conference had in attendance, members of the Federal Road Safety Corps, The Nigerian Army, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Police Force, proprietors and various stakeholders in the education sector.

This year’s conference is themed, ‘Safe School Lessons Learned from Recent Security Breaches in Educational Institutions’.
