Army confirms terrorist attack on Baga; Rescue Efforts In Progress

The Nigerian Army has confirmed terrorists attack on headquarters of Seven Brigade Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) on Baga, Borno State on Wednesday evening.

In a Statement by the Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Sani Usman said the troops along with their Nigerian Navy counterparts put up a very determined fight to repel the attack throughout the night.

The statement added that Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE have sent in reinforcement who are in hot pursuit of the terrorists. Similarly, a Search and Rescue team has been constituted.

According to General Usman, Nigerian Air Force component has also been mobilised and are engaging the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately, a naval personnel was killed in action.

The statement explained that no further details of casualties yet as efforts are on going to clear the terrorists hiding in Baga and environs.

It enjoined members of the public to remain calm as the troops conduct clearance and mop up operations and disregard any contrary information circulating on the attack.
